I had the priviledge to test Salomon S-Lab Fellcross 3 shoe for a period time. The below short article shows my thoughts of it. I would like to thank Castleberg Outdoors that they have provided me the sample shoe to run with and they are creating opportunity for other Running folks as they started testing the Show from different angles.
Thee shoe will be on sale around August time period and is a Autumn/Winter Model. I still own the first version of the Fellcross shoe where I had recently ran SDW 50 race with it. It had kept many of the good features as well as added new ones for its 3rd generation.
The shoe has a very very good grip. This is fact one. If you are Running on wet, boggy and muddy areas, this grip is coming from its anchestor, Speed Cross series. How ever It seems like it is similar to Speed Cross but for me it is much more better in super wet conditions.
The upper part and color is amazing. Now a days it is very popular that People have cars with matt colors 🙂 The black and dark grey on this shoe is matt and looks incredibly stylish. When you put on the shoe, this color adaptation with classic red and black is truely amazing.
The shoe has a better mesh and tongue system such as the one we have in S-Lab Sense series, the EndoFIT. This is elastic tonguethat helps your foot to be more comfortable inside the shoe. It hugs and this helps your feet to be relaxed while Running. I think compared to the 1st generation, the tongue of the shoe is more thinner to be lighter.
The toe box sizing is also different compared to previous version. It is much more better compared to series I. They also used lighter materials all over the shoe to make the shoe more lighter but also on the other hand more protective. There are less stiches in this hoe but there is more bonding and special techniques used to combine parts. When you tighten up your laces the shoe hugs your feet and you are off to go!
One of the most important things I like about Fellcross shoes are the Heel area. Sometimes when going down as an ameteur runner you use your heel to grab the surface which Fellcross grip does that very well. Thats why you need your heel area to be very comfortable. They lowered the heel cup and cushioning in this area is less compared to previous models. On the other hand Salomon also added more protection to protect your feet if you are Running in an area where you have many rocks.
The top material is much more heavier than the previous model which enables the shoe to be more resistant to water. The shoe is not waterproof but lets say water repellent… I suggest getting a Fellcross is a must if you are in UK, Ireland or in any wet country. If you are Running out in fells, races you need something to hold the ground and also if it is not raining heavily to keep your feet dry.
